Robert Indiana

Robert Indiana, American, b. 1928
When Indiana moved to New York in 1956 he began experimenting with geometric pop art styles. He incorporated the visual techniques and motifs of commercial advertising, such as the use of strident color and oversized scale into his art. His best known image, LOVE, first created (1964) for a Christmas card printed by New York's Museum of Modern Art, has been the subject of many of his paintings, sculptures, and prints.
