Leon Kossoff | The London Etchings

1 - 19 February 2023

This February we are delighted to offer you a wonderful selection of original etchings by British artist Leon Kossoff.

Born in 1926, Kossoff spent most of his life in the city of London and explored its environment and inhabitants at length through his art. These etchings are intimate reflections on the city, and his family and friends residing there. Kossoff made a large number of works of his parents, capturing their different gestures, interactions and spirits in his drawing.

Kossoff remained committed to figurative techniques throughout his career, even when minimal and conceptual art dominated in the 1960s and 1970s. Alongside fellow School of London artists including Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud and David Hockney, Kossoff resisted pressure to abandon figuration in favour of abstraction.

Kossoff represented Britain at the centennial Venice Biennale in 1996 and was the subject of a major retrospective at the Tate in 1996. It is very exciting to have these beautiful etchings to exhibit and offer for sale to our collectors at the Print Room this February.
