Stephen Chambers

Stephen Chambers is a British artist celebrated for his rich use of colour, poetic imagery, and exploration of the human condition. Blending figuration and abstraction, his work often draws on narrative, imagined worlds, and states of mind.

He studied at Winchester School of Art, Saint Martin’s School of Art, and completed an MA at Chelsea School of Art in 1983. His early career was marked by awards including the Rome Scholarship and the Mark Rothko Memorial Trust Travelling Award.

Chambers has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, with over 40 solo shows. In 2017, he presented The Court of Redonda as a collateral project at the Venice Biennale. His work is held in major collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the V&A. A Royal Academician since 2005, Chambers has also collaborated with The Royal Ballet on productions such as Sleeping with Audrey (1996) and This House Will Burn (2001). He lives and works between London and Berlin.
