Mychael Barratt | Wes Anderson's Dogs
To accompany a showcase of his body of work 'Wes Anderson's Dogs' Mychael Barratt joined us to discuss and celebrating one of his most interesting and stylish of inspirations: the cinematography of Wes Anderson.
The appeal for Mychael in Wes Anderson’s imagery lies in its satisfying symmetry, carefully curated colour palettes, handcrafted storybook aesthetic, and emotionally restrained characters, all of which combine to create worlds that feel both nostalgic and self-contained. The perfectly centred compositions and balanced frames provide a sense of visual order and satisfaction which Mychael recreates beautifully in his imagined scenes, all featuring London landmarks, and of course... dogs! - Dogs which are placed front and dead centre and look out from Mychael’s work as unflinchingly as any of Anderson’s characters.
