Malcolm Franklin lives and works in Italy, giving him access to some of the most beautiful marble, alabaster, granite and other distinctive pieces of stone from local quarries.
Many of his sculptures are shaped by his response to these materials, with the natural character of the stone sometimes suggesting the form and structure of the final piece. It is this close relationship between the artist and the material that gives Malcolm’s sculptures their wonderfully tactile and visceral presence.

The works are part of a new series called Frames, a project Malcolm has been developing over recent months. He speaks passionately about how the series has evolved and the new possibilities it has opened up for him – exploring not only the physical presence of the sculpture, but also the space and views that surround it.
