Eames Fine Art is delighted to announce the recent acquisition of a very special collection of work by Barbara Hepworth: a number of rare proofs of lithographs and even a chalk and crayon study, from the private collection of the late master printmaker Stanley Jones MBE.

Stanley Jones was the director of the Curwen Studio until he sadly passed away earlier this year. The Curwen Studio is a print studio and publisher of fine art lithographic prints and has produced lithographs with many fabulous, dedicated artists over the years, including Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland, Elisabeth Frink and John Piper. The Curwen Studio was originally founded in 1958 under Stanley's management as a subsidiary of the Curwen Press, (which itself was founded in 1863 by The Reverend John Curwen as a means of producing hymn sheets for his congregation).

Stanley worked very closely with Barbara Hepworth - first visiting her in St. Ives in 1958 where he introduced her to the possibilities of lithography. But it wasn't until 1969 that they began printing together properly.
