Born in 1976, Mary Jane Jones studied Fine Art at the University of Reading and History of Art at the University of St Andrews.
'Fascinated by the domestic interior, most aquatints I make are about private houses where I have stayed: the homes of family and friends and how personality and individuality is reflected in a person's dwelling.
I am interested in furniture, interior design and decorative pattern, and how this evokes a sense of history, of passing time and narrative in the work. There is a sense of the outsider looking in, not intruding but reflecting on the quiet, still ambience, of a room empty or near-empty, of human life. The play of light through net curtains or windows is pivotal to the image, creating an evocative and mysterious atmosphere.'
